This summer will be different from previous years.
I accepted a summer position within my district. This means several things. First, I will have a full-time income for the duration of the session. This is a financial relief as the income will cover rent for the summer. This also has advantages in terms of NYSTRS.
Working full-time through the summer also means I will be making notably fewer pieces of millinery. Usually, in the summer, I try to create 4 or 5 pieces each week, which is roughly 60 hours of work. This summer, I anticipate 1 or 2 pieces of millinery each week. This will be less than half of the summer millinery I previously offered. My new goal is to make 5 or 6 pieces each month to cover the rest of my bills and groceries.
I am determined that this change will not affect the weekend events & interpretations I currently have on my summer to fall schedule. I do not plan to cancel any of these. (I do have to figure out how I am going to squeeze in making the new garments and presentation materials.)
I will still have the week of July 4th “off” and a few days later in August. I have already scheduled a few consultations during this time. I hope to squeeze some relaxation time and museum trips in as well. It would be really nice if this change will also allow me to do some of the writing I have been wanting to do.
