Sewing Cases

Everytime I come across a sewing case or needle-book, I am excited to see how the maker put the tiny piece together, and what materials she or he chose. Each one is a both a work of art and a work of function.

In the Fall of 2013, Fanciful Utility: Victorian Sewing Cases and Needle-books, was released to the public by ESC Publishing. This book, packed full of detailed directions, is the book I wrote while in New Mexico.

For those looking for additional information on what a Civil War era soldier’s sewing case would have been, please read A Soldier’s Housewife
