Now that the biggest display event of the summer has wrapped up, I filled my Etsy shop with pieces I held back over the weekend. This may be the most millinery pieces I’ve had in my shop at one time.
This bonnet was inspired by original milliners using multiple materials in a bonnet. It combines straw braid for the crown with a fancy weave brim. There is a little asymmetry in the brim’s weave pattern if you loom for it. But overall, I am oleased with how it came together.
This beautiful woven straw is in low brim cottage style for the 1850s going into the 1860s. I absolutely love this material and style paired together.
This straw bonnet came out really sweet. It is a petite size for a smaller head. The straw is thicker than what I’ve been working with recently. It made up into a comparatively strong bonnet. I was tempted to keep it for a display piece.
This is the last of the 1840s wovens I have finished. I feel like I don’t do enough of this decade. This woven pattern shows off really well on the deep brim of the 40s. This brim will sit just on the edge of the face but not forward for most.
I am not sure how I did this, but I only took one hat to the event this past weekend. This is the popular tapered crown with a slightly shaped brim 11.5″ wide.
Still available
I am truly amazed this 1880s capote is still available. It would be great for the coming Novel Weekend. (Seriously, if you are local and need it for that message me. I can bring it over.)
